I Need You 02:57
I need you You’re like the coming home for good I need you Thought by now it was understood I need you You’re like the laughter from the schoolyard I need you Does it have to be so hard? Sometimes you look at me Like I’m a ragged tambourine. That’s passed around and beaten to a scream And it’s OK we all get down You know that I’ll be your clown Make you laugh, make you feel the sounds And I think we’re gonna make it Heaven knows if there’s the slightest chance, we got to take it ‘Cause this don’t happen every day The terror of three words that we can’t say Won’t make it go away I need you You’re like the coming home for good I need you Thought by now it was understood

Alone 03:01
When you’re walking on the street Who did you expect to meet? And are you going anywhere? Do you think we really care? And are you alone? You never look at home to me And are you alone? You’re gonna find a way to be When you’re driving in your car Are you going very far? Around the block and back again When you begin you see the end And are you alone? You never look at home to me And are you alone? You’re gonna find a way to be A way to be.. When you’re watching the TV You go to places you won’t see They’re so happy on the screen In a way you’ll never be And are you alone? You never look at home to me And are you alone? You’re gonna find a way to be A way to be A way to be

Sister Burn 03:10
Little sister likes the picture near the stairs Little sister takes the scissors to her hair Sissie never sleeps but always walks out in a dream Sissie never speaks until her lips are just so cracked they scream Falling down in alleyways, out of sight Burning in the sunlight, freezing every night Is it always what you see and what you get? Rolling out of bed this morning I forget Little sister found a bottle and a spoon Little sister is finally happy in her room Sissie walks the broken glass of days that never end Sissie waits to ride again with all her brand new floating friends Falling down in alleyways, out of sight Burning in the sunlight, freezing every night Is it always what you see and what you get? Rolling out of bed this morning I forget Little sister likes the picture near the stairs Little sister takes the scissors to her hair Sissie never sleeps but always walks out in a dream Sissie never speaks until her lips are just so cracked they scream

When you see me Will you go? So sad Go now So sad Go now Go now Will you wonder? Will you cry? Will you look me in the eye? Could I want you? Where will you go now? Go now Go now Go now Don’t hide away I don’t want to hold you down Go now Go now Go now

She went to New York on the bus She’s gonna be real big, yeah not like all of us She got an apartment right downtown She got and agent who charges fifty bucks an hour All she wanted was it all… She went to Nashville on the bus She’s gonna be a star, yeah not like all of us She learned to sing some country songs She’s gonna rule those hicks won’t take her very long All she wanted was it all… She met a man who played the dice He loved his riverboats and giving free advice She said he needed to go far On out to California where the starlets are So she went to LA on the train The sun was shining there don’t think it ever rains She’s been there 27 years She’s finally happy now and no one knows her name All she wanted was it all… All she wanted was it all…

Witness 03:09
Can I get a witness to unholy goings on? Sunday mornings early warning Church bells all undone And I’ll try not to disappoint you With my prattle call Wake up in the early hours Phone ripped off the wall I want to see the sunlight in your hair Take me there tonight…tonight And I don’t think you understand What’s really coming down When you think you’re dreaming That’s when you just hit the ground And I don’t ever want to see you Crawl up to my door If you need a place to hide Don’t come ‘round here no more I want to see the sunlight in your hair Take me there tonight…tonight To not appoint you Can’t anoint you Disappoint the one I needed

Only Love 03:31
She never knew A quiet seed That never grew She never knew You were lost Broke in two (Broken too) Lonely love Lonely love She falls away A hazy dream That never stays She’s a memory Drifting on A Western breeze Only love Only love It’s only love Love’s never wrong Speak your heart Play your cards Go fall in love Take your heart Fall apart Its only love Only love It’s only love She’ll never know A quiet seed That never grows

about

ARCHIVE is a FREE DOWNLOAD collection of loose ends. I needed some of the songs from my first lo-fi 1998 basement demo release 30-Weight to be re-recorded in broadcast quality for TV/Film options. So ARCHIVE ended up being a few new songs written in 2019 and a few of those older songs that I just couldn't let disappear. I also threw in a couple song nods to my Iowa City mentors/friends Bo Ramsey and Greg Brown. Recorded mostly live in Bloomington, Indiana with Paul Mahern producing at his house studio. All CD and Download sales in 2019 went to United Action For Youth in my Iowa City hometown:) A great non-profit organization where I did my first recordings when I was young. I had a ball making this spare little release. It gave me a chance to get headphone reverb weird again and revisit the loose and live recording style that first inspired me many years ago in my Iowa basement.
